Attending Fall Forum this past
weekend in Orlando were: Readie Cooper, Jo Compton, Rebekah
Compton (served as a Page), Elaine Gazaway, Susan Novotny, Lila
Sandstrom, Anne Schwanda, Glenda Walton and yours truly.
As regent I felt as tho I attended
meetings all day Saturday and my brain runneth over...am going to list
a few things that I think are important to let you know about.
***There are 8,739 DAR members in
Florida from 108 chapters. Of these 8,000 plus members
262 are over 90 years of age....and one is over 100!!!!!!!
***There are 24 chapters in 10 countries overseas.
***It was mentioned at two
different times that we need to have a workshop or tea/coffee for
perspective members. Membership isn't just left up to the
Registrar...it is everyones responsibility to recruit new
members...they are out there!!!
***Also...they suggested that each
chapter have membership ambassadors or an inactive
member task force...two or three members would visit members who
are inactive and find out why they don't come to meetings and
participate.
Communication is the key word...we need to get these
inactive members interested again.
***Do you know someone in the
community that we could put up for the Community Service
Award.... if you think you know of
someone let me know and I will get a form to you.
***It was suggested that we give a subscription of the
American Spirit magazine to area high schools. for their media center.
***$67,000.00 has been donated to Haley House so far.
***Please continue to clip coupons.
****Did
anyone hear church bells ring on Wednesday,
September 17, at 4:00 p.m....would like to know if any were rung other
than the one at St. Luke's rung by Helen Stubbs and Glenda Walton.
This morning Lila Sandstrom, Anne
Schwanda and yours truly visited Space Coast Middle/Senior High School
in Port St. John. We met with a Mrs. Zinger who answered our
questions and will proceed with the Good Citizen student,
American History Teacher application and other things. All three
of us felt is was a morning well spent.
That's about it for now.
