Philip perry chapter JANUARY 24th, 2012 MEETING/LUNCHEON Sixty-five members and
guests gathered for our first meeting of the new year. Nine of the guests were prospective members
whose papers are well on the way to completion. Jean Hartman was installed as our newest
member. A New project for our
soldiers was introduced by a very cute doggie bank. The money collected in
the bank will go towards a program called Baghdad Pups-No Dog Left Behind.
Dogs which befriended American soldiers in Iraq will be brought home to the
U.S.A. with money donated to this program. A performance of music on
Native American flutes was presented by Circle of Flutes member Laura Covel Clark. She
explained and demonstrated the beautiful wooden flutes. Everyone enjoyed the lovely music. February will be a very
busy month for Philip Perry members with the Regents’ Council’s annual
luncheon in honor of George Washington’s birthday (February 18th)
and Philip Perry’s Award Tea (February 28th) in honor of
outstanding students in our Good Citizen, Good Citizenship and essay
contests. (CLICK HERE TO VIEW SLIDESHOW FROM THIS EVENT)

CHAPTER DECEMBER 10, 2011 MEETING/LUNCHEON Surrounded by
beautiful Christmas decorations and inspired by Christmas music provided by
a barbershop quartet, members got right into the holiday spirit. Those with
December birthdays were recognized with gifts of tree ornaments and prizes
were awarded for winners of games. The reading of the Native American
Night Before Christmas left us with a wish from Old Red Shirt for a
“Merry Christmas to all My Relations and to all a ‘goot’ night!” (CLICK HERE TO VIEW SLIDESHOW FROM THIS EVENT)

CHAPTER NOVEMBER
15, 2011 MEETING/LUNCHEON Members were treated to a lively
presentation about the history of our local lighthouse—Cape Canaveral Lighthouse—by
Dr. Sonny Witt. Three new members joined our membership. Reports by our
National Defense, Flag and Indian Minute chairmen provoked thoughts of the
sacrifices of our military in this month when they are recognized by a
grateful nation. (CLICK HERE TO VIEW SLIDESHOW FROM THIS EVENT)

dozen heritage groups, including the five local DAR Chapters and the
Brevard Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution gathered to
celebrate Flag Day which occurs on June 14. Many spouses and friends
also attended the luncheon. Larry Johnston, a
local newspaper columnist, entertained with reminiscences of visits to
historical sites related to the American Revolution. Attendees were
encouraged to visit our display of American Flags in the garden of the
Garden Club’s clubhouse. The flags are donated by friends and
relatives to honor American soldiers of all wars. Income from the

CHAPTER MAY 24th, 2011 -
MEETING/LUNCHEON/INSTALLATION (CLICK HERE TO VIEW SLIDESHOW FROM THIS EVENT) Our regular May
meeting was the occasion for the biannual recognition of our past
Regents. Four past Regents were in attendance. A brief history
of each one’s administration was given and each lady was presented with a
miniature tea pot ornament to symbolize their service to the Chapter. A new administration
was begun with the installation of Regent Barbara Moser, First Vice-Regent
Shirley Jaffe and Historian Shirley Phillips.
APRIL 26th, 2011
- MEETING/LUNCHEON Reports made at this
meeting reminded members of two of the areas on which we focus—Conservation
and appreciation for the Native American culture. A brief
Conservation report made members aware of disposable biodegradable table
ware, “Tator Ware”, made from potatoes which are being used in some
restaurants. Pictures of five state flags which include depictions of
Native American culture were displayed on the luncheon tables. Our speaker for this
meeting was Retired Colonel Frank Holder. His career included
twenty-six years in the Marine Corps and fifteen years as a Federal
Judge. His interest in and avid reading of American History was
evident in the informative talk he gave on Benedict Arnold. Three new
members were welcomed into the Chapter.
